Max and Moritz: A Story of Seven Boyish Pranks original: Max und Moritz Eine Bubengeschichte in sieben Streichen is a German language illustrated story in verse. This highly inventive, blackly humorous tale, told entirely in rhymed couplets, was written and illustrated by Wilhelm Busch and published in 1865. It is among the early works of Busch, yet it already featured many substantial, effectually aesthetic and formal regularities, procedures and basic patterns of Busch's later works. Wilhelm Busch 15 April 1832 9 January 1908 was a German caricaturist, painter and poet who is known for his satirical picture stories, with works that include the well known Max and Moritz. He wrote many stories of satire and slapstick humor not primarily aimed at children, illustrated by his own drawings - for which he is justly famous. Children won't catch Busch's gentle satire in Max and Moritz. The whole concept of satire is not familiar to them, of course. But while the little ones breathlessly follow the naughty pranks, Dad smiles at the fun Busch makes of the adults in Max and Moritz. Widow Tibbets is a good example. Wilhelm Busch, Max und Moritz.
