Album

Music video by Pet Shop Boys performing Where The Streets Have No Name I Can't Take My Eyes Off You 2004 Digital Remaster. Where the Streets Have No Name I Can't Take My Eyes off You is a song by English synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys. The song is a medley of covers of U2's Where the Streets Have No Name and Can't Take My Eyes Off You, the 1960s single by Frankie Valli, though in an arrangement informed by the 1982 disco version of the song by Boystown Gang rather than the original. The song accompanied How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously, the third single from their 1990 album, Behaviour, as a double A-side. The plan is to release How can you expect to be taken seriously, a sharp dig at the aspirations and pomposities of pop stars as the first Pet Shop Boys single of 1991. They drastically remix it in conjunction with British dance duo Brothers In Rhythm and film a video in which they parody a number of stars. Eventually they resolve to release both songs as a double A-side on March 11th, and make a complementary video for Where the streets have no name I cant take my eyes off you. Pet Shop Boys' cover of the U2 song, interpolated with Cant Take My Eyes Off You by Frankie Valli although in an arrangement similar to the Boystown Gang version, prompted U2 to release the following statement: What have we done to deserve this Nevertheless, the cover double-A-sided with the rather ironic How Can You Expect To Be Taken Seriously peaked at number 4 in the UK singles chart in March 1991. Pet Shop Boys are known for their remarkable songwriting but this cover is one of their few covers. It is brilliant. You will not be disappointed. Crisis times for the Boys: as Behaviour. does not sell as well as expected and as the new musical direction taken by the PSBs leaves a lot of fans puzzled, Tennant and Lowe realise that they badly need a hit and that they need it quickly. The idea was to rely on the planned fourth single of Behaviour. How can you expect to be taken seriously but the PSBs quickly came to the conclusion that this song would never do on its own
