Moon B Los Angeles, California. At once sultry and spectral, ghostly and hot, Moon B records an intuitive dialogue between source and process that constitutes a hypnagogic work of freakishly funky salvage. After a brief pause since his PPU releases, Wes Gray returns with a remapped take on his distinctly dusty and groovy sample-focused synth funk. Gray has worked towards his particular sweet spot of retrofuturism, and Lifeworld s segues between antiquity and contemporary g-funk benefit from extremely rich, filmic moods and a general knack for basking in warmth and since. Reviews of the Moon B - Lifeworld (10):
B2 contains a killer sample from Glen Adams - A Beat For You. Check out the Jamwax reissue.https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/10210745?ev=rb
I can hear a lot of sampling here, do you recognize any track?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKRidqUSXUwHere you go, this one from Glen Adams back in 1982
nice find :-) . . . . . . . .
Freex by Aura is sampled on side b I think, several minutes in.
Ace mini-LP. More sample-heavy than we're used to from Mr. Gray. This vinyl issue of the orig. cassette is (imho) badly cut for DJs as there are no visual separations between tracks (even though they ARE definitely separate 'songs'). The only visually separate track is the bonus cut at the end of side 2, which HAS got a 'run in' groove. I'm pretty sure this plays at 33, though some folk who've heard me playing it have commented that I 'had it on the wrong speed'. It's screwed baby!
I appreciate it's original issue was a tape and it works nicely as a set played in full, although there are clear breaks where most tracks (or 'sections') begin and end. Track breaks would have been nice, that's all I'm saying but I'm sure I'll manage to divide it up myself with my headphones! It's possible to cut vinyl with visual breaks without actually touching the amount of space between the tracks (eg: Check out the vinyl of Prince's 'Parade' album). You may well be correct regarding PPU and their 'mastering', especially judging by their recent release 'G&G Company' [https://www.discogs.com/G-G-And-Company-Be-My-Girl-Thinking-About-You/release/7663691], there is literally, no bass in the mix at all. Without hearing the OG press one can't really comment, though. The lack of bass certainly put me off enough not to buy it. C'est la vie!
This is a 'mixtape on vinyl'. Not really for the dj's but more for the home listening crowd with plenty of reefer handy, the artist has said this before regarding this project if memory serves. And, not so fast about PPU -- I've heard that they rarely, if ever, "properly" master their lp's but rather just throw it straight onto wax! I dunno, a little bird told me that. I thought Growing Bin did a supurb job with it's vinyl issuing. Peace...
So, is the entirety of the cassette is present on the vinyl version?
yes, plus a bonus track at the end of side b entitled "Moments In Slank"
