An Epoch for Death Metal. Symbolic is the sixth album by American death metal band Death. The album was released on March 21, 1995 through Roadrunner Records. The album was remastered and reissued on April 1, 2008 with five bonus tracks. Like its predecessors, the album is progressive and technically advanced. It also has higher production values than previous albums, with considerably less static on its overall sound. It is notable that the average song length on this album is around five minutes, while it was around four minutes on Human and Individual Thought Patterns, perhaps due to slowed down song tempos closer t. In a contemporary review, Select stated that there're still lashings of gristly, growling vocals and head-in-the-groin. On Symbolic, Death arguably perfect multiple strains of death metal before they even come to fruition. Countless modern death metal bands owe their very existence to this masterpiece. One of the greatest albums of all time. Man have I been late for the party. This album would have been an absolute life changer for me in middle school when Slipknot and Bullet For My Valentine were the bands I considered the most hardcore and when I was at my peak in edginess. There are simply no flaws, the musicianship and attention to detail are just perfect. Symbolic is the first death metal album I've ever purchased and I know I'm not a seasoned fan of death metal yet but I will state the obvious in this classic. Chuck Schuldiner is an animal on the guitar. His technical ability can hardly be compared to anyone else. Symbolic what can I say about this album other than amazing. And this particular release on 180g White Vinyl sounds fantastic. I see so many placing this under Perseverance I personally find Perseverance the weakest of all the Death albums not that it's bad because it's not but it in no way trumps Symbolic
